Dan

Dan was a child of Jacob and Bilhah, Rachel's maidservant. He became the founder of the tribe of Dan. His name became associated with the most northerly city in Israel which was close to the border with Lebanon. When the two kingdoms (north and south) split apart, Jeroboam placed two golden calves one in Bethel and the other in Dan as alternative places for the people of Israel to worship.
