My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
‘I was married to Rosemary for 59 years. I liked everything about her. She was a lovely person: intelligent and able.
‘She had a number of health issues and in 2020 was identified as needing a vaccine straight away. When we were due to have the vaccine, she had to go into hospital. It was 16 December. The next day the consultant came to see her and said, “If we don’t do anything, you have two days to live”. She chose to come home and she lived until 4 March.
‘It’s alright. People are wonderful. But sometimes I think that I’m running the house so that when Rosemary comes back from her heavenly holiday, she will like it.
‘Sometimes I wake up and feel awful. And one morning earlier this year, I did. I sat on the side of the bed and felt so empty. Since Rosemary died, I have started to read a Psalm every night. And that morning Psalm 46 came to me: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea.”
‘Just like that, the whole day completely changed. It was like the sun had come out and it was a wonderful day. It was quite extraordinary.’
