I’m sometimes guilty of thinking I know better than everyone else

My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible

‘I’m sometimes guilty of thinking I know better than everyone else. That mindset often extends to thinking I know what I need better than God.

‘When my wife and I were moving house, I found that I tried too often to force our move to happen instead of taking a step back and asking, “God, help us.”

‘I did pray and seek God for a home to accommodate our two daughters, the job I wanted, and the “perfect” location. But all too often these prayers were basically telling God what he ought to be doing, not trusting his plans and purposes for us.

Proverbs 3.5–6 says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know” (GNB). The Lord leads us, but if we aren’t willing to trust him with all our heart then it makes that leading harder than it needs to be.

‘When I realised I simply had to trust God, the moving process happened quicker than I imagined. The house we moved into provided everything our family needed to make it a home, and I saw God leading the way for us through the charity and kindness of others.

‘I still have to remind myself each day to trust in the Lord all my heart, but through reading the Bible and letting him lead me I find it easier to rely on him rather than on what I think I know.’
