My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
‘In 2017 I was going through a difficult period. I was in a business relationship with a very, very close friend and the business went sour and the relationship was very strained. The really difficult bit was that I appeared to be the bad guy. Every time I tried to explain myself, it made the situation worse.
‘I couldn’t sleep well. The things that we were supposed to be doing together, felt weird. My moods were different at home. In my prayer time, I was asking God about it.
‘During that period, I came across Hebrews 12.2, which says, “Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished the race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed – that exhilarating finish in and with God – he could put up with anything along the way: cross, shame, whatever.”
‘It really spoke to me. I realised that whatever I was paying attention to, that was where my energy would come from. The end result was that I was able to rise above the challenge, though the situation didn’t improve immediately.
‘It was a daily thing. I had to remind myself to keep my eyes focused on Jesus.
‘It’s a very significant text for me. The whole period lasted about 4 ½ years. It was tough. I think without that text, I would have been more bitter. Even now, I still think about it and sometimes I get angry and I have to tell myself to chill. That scripture helped.’
