My cousin died two years ago

My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible

‘My cousin died two years ago. He was a youth leader and a sound engineer. He had a good heart. I was on the drink. I was an alcoholic and took cocaine.

I remember the phone call. I went and saw him on the bed. His mum was crying by him. It didn’t really sink in until the funeral. It’s hard to talk about it still.

My grandad was a Christian. I read the Bible years ago. When my cousin died, I was drinking heavily even more. I didn’t know how to take it and was channelling it with my drugs and alcohol. I knew I needed to go back to the Bible.

I’d always liked Proverbs. I read Proverbs 3.5 which says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." This verse helped. I could feel Him in here, in my heart. I could feel His presence.

When I read this, I just knew that God is going to be there for me. This verse encourages me big time. It’s changed my outlook. I’ve been four months clean. That’s the longest for me. It feels good. Fear had held me back, but not any more.’
