My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible

‘Over the last year the verse that has become important to me is 2 Corinthians 4.18, “While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal”.

‘It puts life into perspective. As I get older, I am more aware of my mortality. It makes you think about what your focus is. We are going to live in eternity as spiritual beings, and this life, I believe, is preparing us for that. All that we learn in and from the Bible is preparing us for that.

‘There is so much that we just don’t see, like radio waves, but we know they are there. There is so much that we can’t see in the spiritual realm too. That has helped me to see beyond the pandemic. What we are going through is temporary. Having this vision of the eternal is so important to me. It changes my perspective. It’s given me a sure and certain hope, a totally reliable sense of where I am going, but also enabled me to pray for more of what’s happening in heaven to happen on earth.

‘If we have a vision of heaven, we have much more confidence and authority and reliance on the power of Jesus to guide us on this earth.’

I keep coming back to John 6.67–68 where Jesus has been teaching and people are finding it hard to understand and lots of his peripheral followers are falling away.
