The verse from the Bible that means the most to me is 1 John 1.4

My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible

‘The verse from the Bible that means the most to me is 1 John 1.4, “We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us, and our fellowship is with the Father and his Son, Jesus. We write this to make our joy complete.”

‘Until I was 19, all the joy in my life came from racing cars round Silverstone and off-road racing. I loved my car: it was a bit of a girl puller.

‘But one day I rolled it, and my mum advised me to go and see my ex-girlfriend, who was a Christian. I went, and I saw 25 young people playing guitars and this verse came up that evening. I started going to the Bible study every week and the verse came up several times. I could see that the Lord wanted his joy to be complete in my life.

‘We all have passions in life – cars, girls – but later, I became a Christian and smuggling Bibles into Eastern Europe (as it was then) became my passion. That verse changed my whole way of thinking and brought me to faith. It was a life-changing verse and I found fulfilment in it.’

I keep coming back to John 6.67–68 where Jesus has been teaching and people are finding it hard to understand and lots of his peripheral followers are falling away.
