We had never done a Bible study before

My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible

'We had never done a Bible study before. But we had a Bible study app, and, as soon as the schools closed, we decided to start doing a Bible study together. We read a chapter of the Bible every day and then once a week, we talk about it on Facebook Messenger.

'We’ve just started the book of Acts, which we haven’t read before. With the coronavirus happening, it encourages us to share our faith a lot more. Everyone will know someone who passes away. So, we have an increased urgency to tell people about Jesus.

'With Acts, we saw the disciples being so bold. We have just been so encouraged by their boldness, putting themselves out of their comfort zones. So, we have been on social media more talking about our faith. For people to be aware of our faith, that’s really good. We’re more confident doing that because we’re at home. Also, we’re on Zoom more, and the chance to have chats and share our faith has been good. With what’s going on, you get deep more quickly. It’s a great opportunity to pop up on social media and say, ‘Read the Bible’. People will listen as well. They’re not busy. They’ve got time.

'The fact that the disciples and apostles were bold has encouraged us. They stood up to everyone by asking God to fill them with his Holy Spirit.

'It’s really comforting knowing that God never changes. He’s the constant in this. We read that the disciples and apostles embraced change and so we know that we should too, and that if we do, that allows God to crazy, awesome things.'

I keep coming back to John 6.67–68 where Jesus has been teaching and people are finding it hard to understand and lots of his peripheral followers are falling away.
