Most people thought the Bible would be against same-sex relationships (65 per cent) though there were marked differences between age groups. Among 25 to 34-year-olds 68 per cent thought this, but only 59 per cent of those over 75 thought so. On caring for the environment, 46 per cent thought it would be in favour and only four per cent against.
On racial equality, 38 per cent – the highest score – thought it would be in favour, with 17 per cent against and 19 per cent 'mixed'. Only 22 per cent thought the Bible was in favour of female equality, however, with 32 per cent choosing 'against' and 22 per cent 'mixed'.
Other categories were more clear-cut. Seventy-two per cent said the Bible would be in favour of forgiveness and 68 per cent in favour of generosity; 69 per cent said it would be against sex outside marriage and the same proportion said it would be against pornography.
Are these responses based on what people have read in the Bible, or what they've heard from Christians? Probably a mixture of both.
