My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible

‘During the pandemic, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The verse that helped me was a verse that’s been with me all my adult life, Psalm 16.8, “I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken”.

‘I was brave when I had my treatment because I knew that this was just the next thing that I had to face. It was a bit weird because of lockdown. I didn’t have time to think about it, and I didn’t know if I could have chemo because it was so risky to go out.

‘But this verse has always helped. I knew that I had to go through the treatment, but that I wasn’t on my own. I told my children that: Jesus is with us.

‘I’m back at work now and I love it. I will never be the same again. It’s nasty, that treatment. In normal circumstances they would have done the reconstruction by now, but there’s such a backlog of cases. On the other hand, when you have cancer, you just want it gone.

‘It was an awful couple of years, but I was never alone it. Now, I can help other people who are going through it because I can understand. So hopefully I can use the experience for good.’
