My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
‘I come from China and came to the UK in 2021 to do my Masters in Music Composition. It was early in 2022 when I walked round the university campus and found a new route from the dining hall to the bus station. I’m completely blind, so I didn’t see that there was a pond in the middle of the path, and I fell into it.
‘I was nearly up to my neck in water and I had a heavy bag with me that included my computer and my passport: everything that was important to me.
‘Into my brain came a verse from the Bible, 1 Thessalonians 5.16–18, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” My mum is a pastor in China, and she taught me that verse.
‘So, the first thing I did was thank God. This wasn’t an easy thing for me, but it was my mum’s way, so it was my first response. I threw my bag out of the pond. When I checked later, everything was OK. I was OK too. I thanked God that the pond was full of water, because it would have been worse had it been empty.
‘This is the magic thing, that God helped me overcome this dangerous moment. This helped my faith. I felt that God loves me, and this Bible verse really cheers me up. I didn’t tell my mum what happened for about six months, but when I did, she gave thanks to God also.’
