My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
‘I emigrated to Canada when I was 21 and lived with my aunt and uncle. My cousin took me along to her church and soon I found a prayer to commit to faith and prayed it. A few months later the Canadian unemployment situation was worse than it was here. My aunt and uncle suggested that I go back to the UK.
‘I read Proverbs 3.5–6 which says, ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight”. It’s been my life verse ever since. It was a very uncertain time, but I felt that I could follow the guidance that I had been given.
‘It was right. I met my husband when I came back, and we’ve been married for 46 years and have three grown-up daughters.
‘I have these verses hanging up in the hallway where I can see them every day, and where they are noticeable. Every time I go to these verses, they give me reassurance. I think you can see from this that God is like a parent and can be trusted implicitly.’
