My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
'I grew up in Nigeria with my uncle. He was a kind man. He was a lawyer. He went to the court one day and came home feeling tired. He asked me to wash his car ready for the morning. Later, his son came running and said, "My Dad is struggling".
We called a neighbour to carry him to hospital. But he was pronounced dead. He’d had a heart attack. It was a big shock.
I was 19 and just about to go to university. I thought it was the end of the road for me as now I didn’t have a sponsor. I read Romans 8.28 which says, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him".
That gave me hope. I applied for a grant to go to university. On the radio it was announced to check the newspaper if you had applied.
We couldn’t even afford the newspaper. So, I went to the newsagent’s and suddenly I found that I had got a grant.
It was wonderful. During that time, I used to wake up in the night and read Proverbs and Ecclesiastes. I was looking for wisdom but I didn’t have anyone to go to. I felt that I was the one that these verses were talking to.'
