My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
'I have struggled with things like self-harm since I was 17. Recently, I’ve been struggling with negative thoughts and feelings again. One of the triggers was work-related stress. I
t was one of those things where I had to keep coming to church to hear God’s word spoken to me. I found reading the Bible on my own was tricky, because I’d read things that didn’t seem to relate to me.
People have been reminding me of God’s love. My Christian friends recommended that I read Isaiah 40.
Essentially, it’s about God’s greatness. It unpacks God’s character. It reminds me that God loves and protects me and how powerful he is. It takes my eyes off my thoughts and feelings, which can be helpful, and gets me thinking about what God is like. That helps me now. It works both when I’m having a good day or a bad day.'
