My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
'I met my wife in Spain. When I came to England, I could only say, "Good morning, very pleased to meet you Mr Bolton," that was my father-in-law to be. That was my only sentence. I could say "I love you" and "hello." Everything was so confusing that first couple of years. If Spain is black, England is white.
Everything was completely different: the culture, the way of thinking, the way of approaching community. It was quite a shock. I read the Bible in Spanish during that time.
One thing that really got me was James 4.28, "Draw near to him and he will draw near to you." That told me that I needed to have a good attitude towards God, towards people and to understand why I was here.
In those two years, reading the Bible gave me more confidence. I had my wife and my in-laws, who really helped a lot. Through reading the Bible I felt that God was saying to me that he had brought me to the UK for a purpose. One purpose was to learn English! Another reason was to build up the body of Christ here in England.
I feel God brought me here to do that. I read the Bible in English now, but then I read it in Spanish. It is the perfect vehicle for you to connect with your own language.'
