My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
'I started a community café a few years ago. I felt like this was what the community needed. I felt it was what God wanted me to do. I’d never wanted to open a coffee shop. I’d never even drunk much coffee. But the vision for it came from 1 Peter 4.8-11.
That says, "Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling." Christ was the beginning of the vision, then the community, then the coffee. I’ve walked the Camino pilgrimage route. There’s a real sense of community there. I was trying to bring a bit of that here. It’s helping the community. We pray every day and we see God answering our prayers.
People are moving out of depression and anxiety. People who have lost loved ones come here and make new friends. The poverty here is not financial, but social. The idea was to tackle that, and it is being tackled, really. Before we opened, we had a lot of thoughts about what we wanted to do, but these verses focused them. This is my life’s mission now.'
