I was going through a divorce

My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible

‘I was going through a divorce, and it was at a time when divorce wasn’t so talked about. I felt a lot of guilt about the divorce. I stopped going to church because I felt like a second-class Christian.

‘I’m a bit of a worrier and I remembered things that I had done in my past and in my childhood and I carried all of that around with me. I knew that God had forgiven me, but I kept bringing these things up from my past.

‘I was in Germany attending a Bible study with an American woman and we talked about this. We were reading through the Bible and Isaiah 43.25 jumped out at me. It says, “I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake and remembers your sins no more”.

‘I realised that God was saying that he had “blotted out my transgressions” and I should blot them out myself. If I kept bringing them up, I was being unfaithful. It led to a change of attitude and freedom for me. It was so freeing. It was something that has stayed with me. I felt much more cheerful. It was amazing.’

I keep coming back to John 6.67–68 where Jesus has been teaching and people are finding it hard to understand and lots of his peripheral followers are falling away.
