I work in a hospital and in March 2020 I got Covid

My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible

‘I work in a hospital and in March 2020 I got Covid. I couldn’t breathe. I thought I was going to die. My wife called the ambulance. I thought I wasn’t going to see my children grow up. I contacted my friend and told him where all the paperwork was. I told my wife to look after my mother in India. I said goodbye to my children and I called my mum. I was terrified.

‘In the hospital my pulse was 153, my oxygen saturation was 88 per cent, my temperature was 39 degrees. I’m a nurse. I knew what was happening to me. They were talking about ventilating me.

‘I prayed, and I remembered Psalm 91.7 which says, “A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you”. I talked to God and I said, “If this is your promise, you have to help me. My kids need me to be there. My mother needs me.”

‘I closed my eyes and I felt a cool touch on my hand and cool air blow on my face, though the rest of my body was hot. It was God’s touch. I thanked God for preserving my life. I opened my eyes and looked at my stats. My pulse was 83, my oxygen saturation had increased to 96 per cent and my temperature was down.

‘The consultant couldn’t believe it. He discharged me three hours later with antibiotics.

‘I knew that God had preserved my life. I started praying for everyone who was ill and praying with 18 other families a couple of times a week. We still do that.

‘I had given up, but God hadn’t. That’s what I learned. I realised that God can do anything and it has made me so faithful to God.’

I keep coming back to John 6.67–68 where Jesus has been teaching and people are finding it hard to understand and lots of his peripheral followers are falling away.
