I’m a mother-of-four

My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible

‘I’m a mother-of-four so having time to sit down quietly to read is a challenge. But, because the children are a bit older, for the last year I’ve been getting up earlier and reading the Bible.

I have become so much closer to God. I read Proverbs this morning, talking about having wisdom and respecting the Lord. I don’t think I’m a wise person. I’m not very clever. But it says that you should respect the Lord and I do, so perhaps I’m a bit more wise than I thought! Things like that encourage me.

There were always Bibles in our house growing up. I was given one and it sat on the shelf for years! But Beibl.net [the Welsh Bible in a modern translation] has been the most valuable gift for me. It's fantastic.

I haven’t been as excited about anything for ages. It’s totally different reading this in a modern way. It’s as if God is speaking my language. It’s just like an every-day chat. It’s more like reading a novel. It makes God more real to me because I understand the language.’

I keep coming back to John 6.67–68 where Jesus has been teaching and people are finding it hard to understand and lots of his peripheral followers are falling away.
