My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
'My absolute favourite part of the Bible is Corinthians 13, the whole chapter. It just sums up what the Christian faith is about. I came across it 40 years ago and it’s grown and grown in my heart over the years.
I lost a grandchild 20 years ago. It was something that I drew on then. The pregnancy went well. The birth went well. It was a little girl. Within 24 hours we were informed that there was something wrong with the child. It was a rare genetic defect and she lived for three weeks.
It had a great effect on our son and daughter-in-law. It was a dreadful situation. I never forget our son and daughter-in-law cradling the baby as she gasped her last breath.
Sometimes, you ask, "Why? Where is the God of love?" But the Christian life is not a sort of blueprint for a perfect life with perfect health, living until you’re 92 and falling asleep. These verses have been an anchor to me.
They tell me that love is supreme. Everything else is irrelevant. They are the basis of things, of love and God’s love for us. We are there for our children and grandchildren. We love them in good times and bad. We pick them up when they are crying. We are there to love them. If only there was more love in the world.'
