My favourite verse of all time is the story of Philip in Samaria

My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible

'My favourite verse of all time is the story of Philip in Samaria, when the Holy Spirit says, “I want you to leave this thriving ministry and go to the road which is currently deserted”. He must have thought, “Why?” Then along comes the eunuch in the chariot and Philip tells him about Christ.

That has brought home to me how personal faith is. I can choose to accept what God says or go my own way.

We are all big talkers in my family. My mother and grandmother could talk for Britain. As a couple, we got interested in evangelism just a few weeks after we had become Christians. People encouraged us to share our faith.

So that’s been in us from day one. I find it easy to chat to people. You can’t always see why you are sharing your faith with someone. You can’t tell if it makes a difference. But God uses what we have done in ways that we can’t imagine. Philip is an inspiration really.'

I keep coming back to John 6.67–68 where Jesus has been teaching and people are finding it hard to understand and lots of his peripheral followers are falling away.
