My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
'My go-to verse at the moment is Haggai 1.8, which talks about building up the house of the Lord in the mountains. We are trying to build up the house of God in Meribel in the French Alps, where we’ve had a ski chalet business for the last 18 years. The church there is only open at Easter and Christmas.
We want there to be services every week during the season. We want to build up a Christian presence and let people know that God is not who they think he is and that church is not what they think it is. We want young people and music.
The dream is to have a festival there. We are trying to reach the rich kids. Everybody needs to hear the good news, whether rich or poor. It’s like Freshers’ Week for the whole season. We want to provide a fellowship for Christians to come there and build them up as leaders and for them to see what their gifts are. People go to the bars at 4pm and they are rowdy.
We want to be in those bars, helping drunk people home. We have been drunk skiers, so we know it. We want to be a sanctuary as well. I feel closer to God in the mountains. You can’t escape that God is there.'
