Psalm 27 came into my life in the last 10 years

My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible

‘Psalm 27 came into my life in the last 10 years. My mum had died, and my dad was still alive then. I’d got divorced and was bringing the children up myself, with help from my parents.

‘Then a lump was found in my lung. It turned out not to be cancer, but it still impacted my life. I couldn’t do a lot of stuff. I couldn’t stand, or sit for long, and I had to lie down.

‘During this time, I found YouTube very helpful. I listened to the Bible and to people singing in Hebrew. I’ve got a small amount of knowledge of Hebrew, but I loved it because it spoke to my soul and brought me great peace.

‘I was going through a really crappy time and yet Psalm 27 said, “What shall I fear?” It reminded me that if I died I would be with Jesus and if I lived I would stay with my children. I had an operation and I said to my children, “I trust you to live without me, but I will fight to stay with you”. At that time, this psalm spoke to my soul. It’s a battle psalm that talks about spiritual battles, and it was a battle for a few years. The lump has been removed and it hasn’t re-occurred. Psalm 27 has accompanied me through everything.’
