My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
‘Romans 10.14 says, “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?”
‘I became a Christian in France in the 1980s. I was working in IT. I started reading the Bible and it was amazing. I couldn’t believe that I hadn’t read it before. The words were jumping off the page. After Jesus did the miracle of the loaves and fishes, some people in the crowd left. I realised that I didn’t want to be in the crowd that left, and that’s how I became a Christian.
‘I married a Frenchwoman and we had two children. We had the idea of tithing part of our lives, maybe seven to ten years, to the Lord. When my wife passed away in 2018, I thought it was the end of that plan, but it wasn’t. I help with short-term missions in France, in a deprived housing estate in Normandy. We are not allowed to proselytise, but we listen and have conversations in a community café, and run a football club. I also work in the local churches. This verse is about mission, and I feel that I am absolutely in the right place. There are so many frustrations, but blessings as well.’
