My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible

Romans 8.1–2 was the first scripture I read when I was 17. It says, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.”

‘I was taken by that. I felt that it was a big step to become a Christian, but one that was worth taking. I felt that everything had been put right and all I had to do was remain in Christ.

‘I was saved because of that scripture. I had moved to London and was on my own. A 17-year-old in London could have taken so many routes, but that scripture woke me up. The answer for my life was to remain in Christ.

‘I have been reading the Scriptures since then. I read the Scriptures every day with my daughter, who is now 17, and I have time before work at 6 am to read the Scriptures and pray on my own. It’s my lifestyle.

‘It helps me during the day not to be anxious, to stay in control. I feel like I’m empowered to go out there and face the world. I work in mental health and I feel I need some strength to step out there, and Scripture is the best thing for that. I remind myself every day to remain in Christ.’

I keep coming back to John 6.67–68 where Jesus has been teaching and people are finding it hard to understand and lots of his peripheral followers are falling away.
