The Bible has always been important for me

My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible

‘The Bible has always been important for me, and I realised that when I was young. Proverbs 3.5–6 is the ethos of my life, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. Remember the LORD in everything you do, and he will show you the right way.”

‘Because I truly believe in that, I really believe that, I don’t worry about anything. For us as Christians, whether it’s illness, or lost jobs, or death, anything that we come across, if we truly believe this, how can we worry?

‘I was given the Bible as a gift from my whole family, especially my grandmother who was phenomenally wise. I used to go and care for her as a teenager and she would quote Bible verses to me and this from Proverbs was one of them. I witnessed this in my grandmother and my aunty.

‘I can remember at school being bullied for being academic, for going to church. But my mother said, “You don’t have to worry about that. Pray about it and don’t worry.” That was instilled in me.

‘I have had tough times, but because that idea has been instilled in me, I don’t worry about it. I have peace every day that no matter what happens to me, God and I will handle it together. I live every day for itself. It makes me enjoy every day.’
