My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible

'The passage that’s shaped my life is Luke 4.16-30. It’s where Jesus is rejected in Nazareth having read the prophecy about himself from Isaiah.

I came to faith when I was 18, watching the ITV mini-series “Jesus of Nazareth”. It starts with the adult Jesus going into the synagogue and shows how everybody turned against him. It blew my mind. It was so powerful for me.

When I saw that, I saw the real Jesus. I realised that this was him. It was the real thing. These words have gone with me and been an integral part of my life. I now work for a Christian radio station and in my spare time, I’m a bit of an evangelist.

My life has been shaped by these verses. Without these verses I would just have been muddling through. There’s been many times when I’ve wanted to put God back on the shelf for a little while. But I have known that I’m not called to that. I know I’m called to live for God 100 per cent.'
