My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible

‘We had a normal childhood in Iraq, but after 2013 our lives have been changed. Threats started. Everything took a turn for the worse.

I used to go to the university. Many people came up to me and said, “Why don’t you convert to Islam? Why are you a Christian?” There was so much pressure in my life. I used to tell them, “My faith is my own business and you are not allowed to come near it”. I was very strong in my belief in Jesus.

After November 2014, we knew it was time to leave. My father worked in a government institution and he got threats to be hanged so we knew that we had to leave quickly. When you are threatened, you are scared to stay one more minute in the place that you are, so it was a quick decision. We had to leave because ISIS was close. We left immediately.

We had a car. We fled straight from Kirkuk to Jordan on November 13, 2014. As we left I was grieving because we were leaving the place that we were used to, our house that we were used to and wondering what life would be like.

The Bible has affected my life greatly. We go to church twice a week. I love the verse in particular that says, “I am the way, the truth and the life”. It helps me to focus on that He is the way, the truth and the life and that whenever I want to walk in a path, to focus on Him. It has helped me greatly. As long as we have Christ in our lives we are sure that the future will be a good future.’

I keep coming back to John 6.67–68 where Jesus has been teaching and people are finding it hard to understand and lots of his peripheral followers are falling away.
