My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
'We moved to the UK two weeks after we were married. I thought Uganda was perfect, and I would never leave. It is referred to as the Pearl of Africa. It’s got lots of fresh water, plants and animals. I might be biased, but I feel that the people are very welcoming. Leaving home was very hard.
I honestly felt abandoned. I remember being overwhelmed by the greyness and by the fact that I didn’t see anyone on the streets. It was the end of November, and everyone was indoors. I had never experienced the home setting where you didn’t bump into people all the time. I couldn’t see how I would make friends.
The Scriptures that were key in these moments were Matthew 28.20 where Jesus says, “I am with you until the end of the age” and Jeremiah 29.11, which says, “‘For I know the plans I have for you’, declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’.” These were like uncles in storms.
I felt like, even when things got bleak (which was mostly the weather) that God had started this journey for us, He’s not going to let us down now. I knew he was with me. Those Scriptures were pointers to get things in perspective. Now, here is home as much as Uganda.'
