My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
‘What I want to get over is that God is always faithful. I’ve been a Christian for 59 years and he’s always been faithful. 1 Corinthians 1.9 says, “God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”
‘My wife and I got married in 1964, bought a bungalow and had two daughters. We were very much involved in our local church. We only had Wednesday evenings free! That’s when I used to watch Z Cars on the telly.
‘It came to the point where we felt that we were being called into Christian work. A vacancy came up. But there were a couple of problems. Our bungalow was worth less than half the house prices in the town where we were going, and because I was moving from the steel industry to Christian work, my income also halved.
‘We decided to step out in faith and moved. A house was provided for us by the organisation I worked for. I enjoyed that job. We made friends in the local church that have lasted forever. We felt that was God’s faithfulness to us.’
