When one of my sisters died

My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible

'When one of my sisters died in a plane crash I read the Bible. I couldn’t deal with the grief. She was in Nepal and the plane flew into the side of a mountain. Everyone onboard died.

She was so funny and wanted to enjoy things in a way that some people don’t. If we were drinking Coke she’d say, “Let’s pretend it’s champagne.”

She was 31 when she died. Because we had no body, we couldn’t bury her. There was lots of unresolved grief. I read the verse in 1 Corinthians, “If I have faith enough to move mountains but have not love, I am nothing.”

She’d flown into a mountain. Reading that helped me to remember that she was with God. I couldn’t doubt that she was in a better place. I wanted her with me. We were very close. But I could see that I had a lot of love for her and without that, what would my faith be?

If you really believe that these people you love have gone to God, do you believe that is better? I could see that it was. When I read the Bible I saw that there was somewhere better than here.'
