My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
‘Years ago, I was going through a very, very black period. It went on for a number of years. I worked near the castle in Nottingham. It got so bad that, one day I thought, “I can’t take this any more”. I got up and walked out and right up to the castle and I was going to jump, but somehow, I think it was God, I felt as if someone was pulling me back, saying, “This is not the way.” I went slowly back to my office.
‘Some time after that, a verse came to me and it was Proverbs 3.5–6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight.”
‘I’m a great one for making my own mind up and this taught me I must put my trust in him. He’s been so wonderful to me since. This verse kept coming up through all the years. Later, he brought my husband to me.
‘I don’t know what God has lined up for me, but I rely on Proverbs 3. I know that I can trust God. I try to include him in everything I do.’
