My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
‘Yesterday, I became aware that I wasn’t really trusting God and his promises. It’s the everyday things that preoccupy me: financial worries, an elderly mother. Also, I have been ill in the past and I know that I need to trust God for the future. Having been ill has made me think about my own mortality and frailty. Now, I have peace about that, but there was lots of turmoil before.
‘So yesterday, I read the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6. I read it over and over. It was a balm for my soul. It brought me peace. I had a beautiful, peaceful night’s sleep after that!
‘It’s such a beautiful thing. It’s so simple, but it tells you how to live. It’s so well-known that it’s easy to forget it, but I know now that I will start every time of prayer with the Lord’s Prayer. It’s given me a fresh way of thinking, which is a surprise for something that I know as well as all that.’
