My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
‘My favourite verse in the Bible is actually the shortest one: “Jesus wept”. What I love about that is that God is moved by people’s suffering and his heart is responsive over something that he has seen. We all go through tough times and to know that God weeps with the toughness that you go through is amazing really.
On occasions I have suffered from fairly dark episodes, depression. Then, it’s important [to know] that he is with you. You can feel that he isn’t. Sometimes you need people to remind you of what’s in the Word. Sometimes you end up lying to yourself. So, it’s good to know the truth as a reference point. Having a firm, fixed reference point is really helpful.
There are lots of lies: that you are not making a difference, that you are not worth anything. The tears of Jesus make me feel valued and that’s important to know.’
